Dean's Birthday

Mom told me last night that someone is complaining that I haven't kept our blog going lately. That's because nothing exciting and blog worthy has happened. But that changed on Saturday which was Dean's birthday. Dean turned 28 this year. I saw on his birth certificate that he was born at 5:33 a.m. so at 5:33 a.m. on Saturday morning is when I woke him up to open his presents. However first he had to find the presents. I used some yarn and wound it around the house. He had to follow the yarn to his presents. I got the idea from Mom the year she did this for us for Christmas. This is a little what the house looked like before Dean got up. And I still had over half the yarn left:

Dean was not happy waking up so early especially after he had to go through this just to find his presents but he was a good sport about it. He finally found all his presents and opened them. Jag got him a little bull with a bull rider on the back and there is a button you push that makes the bull buck to knock the rider off the bull. I got him a dehydrator and a jerky gun and Mom and Dad got him the Dehydrator Bible.

He was so excited. We went back to bed and got up a couple hours later and the first thing we did was make Jerky. It took a lot longer than the instructions said but it was Dean's first time on the jerky gun and the strips didn't come out very even. But the jerky was finally done drying Sunday after church and it is very good. Dean is excited to make more but next comes fruit leather. After we put the jerky in we watched KU almost lose at home. But they pulled out a win and all wasn't lost. Then BYU's bowl game was on and we watched BYU kill UTEP in the New Mexico Bowl. Dean was a pretty happy guy. Since our options for fine dining in town are limited to Applebee's and Western Sizzlin' and Dean not wanting to drive an hour just for dinner I made Dean's birthday dinner. We had T-bone steak (which I forgot to season, but was still good), mashed potatoes, corn, and Dean's favorite rolls. Then we had birthday cake. Again we are limited in this town to Wal-Mart cake (and they don't make ice cream cakes) I decided to make Dean's cake. I looked up on the internet how to make an ice cream cake and it worked really well. I made a chocolate funfetti, chocolate ice cream cake with chocolate funfetti frosting.

Dean insisted on all the chocolate then told me it was too rich for him to have his normal 2 helpings. But it was really good. And I decorated it with some things I found at the store.

It was a really cool cake. Here are some pictures of Dean blowing out his candles:
